| A Review of Glory Road by Robert Heinlein |
![]() |
This is a rare foray by Heinlein into... get this... fantasy. Why is it in the soft sci-fi section then, you ask? Because it turns out by the end of the book that it's actually a science fiction multiverse, but the story up to about 2/3 of the way through was in a part of that multiverse where guns and lasers and that sort of thing don't work, leaving a swords-and-magic kind of place. The hero, Oscar, starts off on his way back from fighting in Vietnam, but ends up following the beautiful Star and the groom Rufo into another universe entirely on a desperate quest that he doesn't quite understand. This book is written with the normal kind of Robert Heinlein flair, with lots of insights into human sexual habits and the normal kinds of stupidity that are our lot in life. |
